Week 5 update on our Winter Litter

Updated: Jan 3

So much has gone on in the last 4-5 days here at Miller Creek.

On December 27th, we moved our puppies from the whelping area to a larger play/sleeping area. We added 2 kennels, their potty tray, beds, toys, a dog cot, and a play tunnel.

These little ones love all their new space. We started with just the kennels, potty tray, and dog cot at first. We added each puppy one at a time to see how they would react to all the new things and a different space. Let me tell you, they all slowly walked around taking it all in, and immediately started playing. No one was reserved or shy, they all just acted as if it was the same spot they had been in the entire time. Even though for the last several weeks we have been taking them away from the box and carrying them around separately, I was still very proud of them and how they responded.

After an hour or two we added in their toys, beds, and play tunnel. They played for at least an hour before passing out inside the kennels.

We have continued with loud noise & grooming desensitization. They have experienced pots banging together, our Loud food processor going to pulverize their dog kibble for mush, vacuum, and all of our larger dogs barking like crazy.

On December 28th, we used the clippers to shave their bum/sanitary area and their face. I did all of this while they sat in my lap, just to make sure they were comfortable. A few pups were wiggly on shaving their booty, but everyone did very well with the face. This coming week we will get them used to standing on the table and having the blow dryer sound around them.

We introduced black, red, orange, and yellow collars to our dog pack. We have 2 pit bulls, our male poodle, and of course mama Savannah. Even though our other dogs can go right up to the gates and everyone can see each other, we wanted to see how they would respond to new dogs. Yellow and orange wanted to play right away. Red and black followed them around to see what was going on and had zero issues letting everyone smell them (never shy away), but they had more of a sit back and watch kinda attitude. Others will be introduced as well, we just ran out of time with New Year's Eve approaching.

Take a look at their 5-week-old photos. My goodness, they are all STUNNING!
